Boox Air4 C Cons
#Gadgets
Let's move the e-ink display aside.
What's left?
An Android tablet with a 3-year-old OS and 5yo and not the most capable 5 y.o. hardware.
Comparing to iPad mini 7:
Spec | iPad Mini 7 (A17 Pro) | BOOX Note Air4C (Snapdragon 750G) |
---|---|---|
Performance Cores | 2x @ 3.78 GHz (custom Apple cores) | 2x Kryo 570 Gold @ 2.2 GHz (Cortex-A77 based) |
Efficiency Cores | 4x @ 2.11 GHz (custom Apple cores) | 6x Kryo 570 Silver @ 1.8 GHz (Cortex-A55 based) |
Manufacturing | 3nm (TSMC N3B) | 8nm (Samsung LPP) |
This difference in hardware could be justified by a price tag. But they cost almost the same! Without even mentioning the previous-generation iPads.
You would say that an e-reader doesn't need to be powerful. Yes, but it's only half of the truth.
In reality, it's an ordinary Android tablet which you would probably need to install native Android apps on. Perhaps for syncing your documents or for navigating your huge Obsidian vault.
That's where the weak hardware can bite you.
Another take is that the majority of Android apps are not optimized for e-ink screens. They were developed with a 60hz screen refresh rate in mind. That's why native Boox's note-taking app works well with stylus, but other apps don't.
