Les Deux Alpes
Why it might suit you:
- High-altitude glacier skiing: With slopes reaching up to 3,600m, Les Deux Alpes enjoys reliable snow conditions, especially mid-winter.
- Great for confident intermediates: There are plenty of wide blue and red runs, and a renowned snowpark for those wanting to try freestyle.
- Lively après-ski: The resort has a bustling bar scene, making it popular with those who like an active nightlife after a day on the slopes.
Potential drawbacks:
- Resort layout: The village is stretched out along a main road, which can mean longer walks or shuttle rides to certain lifts/accommodations.
- Steep return runs: Some slopes back to the village can be challenging or icy for less experienced skiers.
- Crowds in peak times: Its popularity, especially among younger crowds, can lead to busy slopes and queues during holidays.
My Experience
A few notes on the ski resort:
- Visited in Feb 2025
- Very positive experience overall. Would I recommend? I would say yes.
- A lot of space, not overcrowded at all, huge gondola lifts. Spent ~zero time in the queues overall
- Huge glacier on top with very wide runs, but also a significantly large flat area
- Available in summer (!)
- Some of the return runs can be really challenging for beginners
- There are fewer cafes on the mountain that one would expect. Probably because of the altitude, idk.
Tips
- There is a free parking lot just in front of a chairlift at Mont de Lans Village 1300. The only red run leading down there is likely to get covered with ice any time afternoon. Making the perfect place not only to start the day but also to finalize.
- It's very close to Alpe d'Huez allowing to switch easily and get 250km of slopes more.
