Morzine

Why it might suit you:

  • Access to a huge ski area: Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil, offering around 650 km of interconnected slopes that suit a wide range of abilities (particularly intermediates).
  • Authentic Alpine charm: Morzine is a traditional Savoyard town with a lively center, quaint chalets, and good après-ski without feeling too commercial.
  • Convenient transfer: It’s roughly 1–1.5 hours from Geneva, making airport-to-resort travel relatively quick.

Potential drawbacks:

  • Lower altitude: At about 1,000m, Morzine’s base is not as high as some French mega-resorts, so lower slopes may suffer if snowfall is poor.
  • Can get crowded in peak weeks: Popular with families and short-break skiers from Geneva, so slopes and village can feel busy during holidays.
  • Varied lift infrastructure: While many lifts have been upgraded, parts of the Portes du Soleil still have older facilities, meaning occasional queues or slower chairs in certain areas.
