A Few Years With Kindle Paperwhite 7th

#Gadgets

I've been using Kindle Paperwhite 7th since 2021, here are a few notes on the experience.

What I liked:

  • The e-ink screen is gorgeous for reading. Especially during the daytime.
  • The battery life is so crazy that It feels like a non-electronic always ready-to-use device.
  • It's a compact featherweight, and very pleasant device to use in general.

What I didn't like:

  • A bit lack of screen real estate. 6" is too small for the size of font I'm comfortable with
  • It's bad for anything that is not an e-book. It's terrible for PDFs, articles from the web, and anything with code.
  • Black & white display is quite limiting for some content. Especially for code due to a lack of syntax highlight
  • I found out that dropping a few notes in addition to text highlights is very inconvenient because of the responsiveness of the e-ink and on-screen input.

Solution:

  • Colorful display
  • More responsive display or stylus input support for notes
  • Larger display

There was an upgrade of Paperwhite and I started to think that it might be a good replacement for my old one.

And then I thought: "Wait. There are so many cool devices on the market. What if I don't lock myself in an Amazon store".

Then I started research and came across the Boox Air4 C which seemed to be a perfect upgrade. Controversially, I started considering iPad as well: Thoughts on iPad Mini 7 vs Boox Air4 C
