Sestriere

Why it might suit you:

  • Vast ski area (Via Lattea): Sestriere is part of the Milky Way ski domain (400+ km of slopes), offering plenty of blue and red runs to keep intermediates entertained.
  • High altitude: With a base around 2,035m and upper slopes reaching ~2,800m, it generally boasts reliable snow conditions in February.
  • Convenient from Turin: Roughly 1.5 hours’ drive from Turin Airport, making it relatively quick and easy to access.

Potential drawbacks:

  • Purpose-built village feel: While functional and convenient, Sestriere’s modern buildings don’t offer much in the way of classic Alpine charm.
  • Older lifts in some areas: Certain parts of the Via Lattea network haven’t been modernized, so you may encounter slower lifts or older chairlifts.
  • Variable snow lower down: Nearby resorts in the Milky Way (like Sauze d’Oulx) sit at lower altitudes, which can mean less reliable coverage if snowfall is poor.
