Dopamine Fasting

Related: Dopamine

A dopamine diet is a practice and a [[cognitive behavioral therapy]] method that involves taking control of your dopamine sources.

It implies:

  • Prioritizing healthy activities and experiences that require effort and provide a sense of accomplishment.
  • Avoiding easily accessible sources of pleasure that provide instant gratification which is often referred to as "cheap" dopamine.

This behavior is proven to increase long-term happiness, motivation, and genuine fulfillment and satisfaction by addressing compulsive behaviors.

It's sometimes referred to as a form of digital detox but it can also be extended to a broader number of areas and sources of dopamine: emotional eating, excessive internet usage and gaming, gambling and shopping, porn and masturbation, thrill and novelty seeking, and recreational drugs.
