Task Management in Obsidian

#Obsidian, #Productivity

There is a task management plugin for Obsidian, but is it a good idea to manage tasks in Obsidian at all?

If you're using Obsidian to manage a vault in a Zettelkasten-style format, tasks are probably not the most suitable input for the zettelkasten. They just don't fit well in the concept of Zettelkastenn note: Why Tasks Are Not the Right Input for Zettelkasten.

Task management is pretty boring by itself. Any friction you add to the process has a strong negative effect overall. Managing tasks in Obsidian does add some friction because Obsidian was not initially designed for that. Even though there are plugins allowing you to handle tasks' due dates, statuses, etc the overall experience will hardly ever be as smooth as with [[Things App]].

On another hand, it's VERY tempting to keep the tasks as close as possible to the projects' roadmaps, contexts, resources, and notes. It's very convenient to keep the list of things TBD for the day close to the daily note especially for interstitial journaling purposes when using note as an Interface between the outer world and the thinking process.

Even though tasks do not fit well in the zettelkasten flow, as mentioned above, they can be kept separately from notes. That's how we can take the best from the two productivity porn worlds and build the ultimate second brain tool.

After a few attempts and failures, I gave in: My Task Management Setup in Obsidian.
